Bulging herniated disc spinal anatomy

Bulging Disc Treatment Dublin

Treat a Bulging Disc Without Surgery

Non-surgical spinal decompression with the Computerised Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression creates negative intradiscal pressure that draws the bulging disc material back towards its normal position - relieving nerve compression and pain without surgery or injections.

Understanding the Condition

What Is a Bulging or Herniated Disc?

Your spinal discs act as shock absorbers between each vertebra. Each disc has a tough outer ring (the annulus fibrosus) and a soft, gel-like centre (the nucleus pulposus). When the outer ring weakens or cracks, the inner material can push outward - this is a bulging or herniated disc.

A bulging disc extends beyond its normal boundary but the outer ring remains intact. A herniated (or 'slipped') disc means the inner nucleus has broken through the outer ring. Both can press on nearby nerve roots, causing pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the back, neck, arms, or legs.

Disc problems are most common in the lumbar spine (L4–L5, L5–S1) and the cervical spine (C5–C6, C6–C7). They can develop gradually through wear and tear, or suddenly through injury or heavy lifting. Without addressing the underlying disc, symptoms rarely resolve on their own.

Prolapsed disc

Symptoms

Signs You May Have a Disc Problem

Symptoms depend on the location and severity of the disc bulge and which nerves are affected:

Sharp or aching lower back or neck pain
Pain that radiates into the buttock, leg, or foot (lumbar disc)
Pain that radiates into the shoulder, arm, or hand (cervical disc)
Numbness or tingling in the limbs
Muscle weakness in the leg, foot, arm, or hand
Pain that worsens with sitting, bending, or coughing
Stiffness and reduced range of motion
Symptoms that improve when lying down or walking

The Treatment

How Spinal Decompression Treats a Bulging Disc

Computerised Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression applies a precise, computer-controlled distraction force to the affected spinal segment. This creates a negative pressure inside the disc - a vacuum effect that achieves what no other conservative treatment can:

01

Retracts the disc bulge

The negative intradiscal pressure draws the bulging or herniated material back towards the centre of the disc, directly reducing pressure on the affected nerve root.

02

Rehydrates the disc

Decompression draws water, oxygen, and nutrients back into the disc - restoring its height, elasticity, and shock-absorbing capacity.

03

Promotes disc repair

Improved disc nutrition supports the body's natural healing process, allowing the annulus fibrosus to repair and the disc to stabilise over the course of treatment.

04

Relieves nerve compression

As the disc retracts and the vertebral space opens, pressure on the nerve root is reduced - resolving referred pain, numbness, and tingling in the limbs.

Treatment Protocol

What to Expect

10 sessions45 minutes per session1-2 sessions per week

Phase 1

Pain relief

Sessions 1–8

Rapid reduction in nerve pain and referred symptoms as disc pressure is relieved. Most patients notice significant improvement within the first two weeks.

Phase 2

Disc healing

Sessions 9–20

Continued decompression promotes disc rehydration and retraction of bulging material. Symptoms continue to improve and the disc begins to stabilise.

Phase 3

Rehabilitation

Sessions 21–30

Targeted physiotherapy and exercise to strengthen the core and spinal muscles, correct posture, and protect the disc from future injury or re-herniation.

Conditions Treated

Disc Problems We Treat

Spinal decompression is effective for a range of disc-related conditions in both the lumbar and cervical spine:

Lumbar disc herniation

L4/L5 and L5/S1 are the most common levels. Causes lower back pain and sciatica.

Cervical disc herniation

C5/C6 and C6/C7 are most commonly affected. Causes neck pain and arm symptoms.

Degenerative disc disease

Age-related disc dehydration and height loss causing chronic pain and stiffness.

Disc bulge with radiculopathy

Disc pressing on a nerve root causing referred pain, numbness, or weakness.

Facet syndrome

Disc height loss causing increased load on the facet joints, leading to inflammation and pain.

Spinal stenosis

Narrowing of the spinal canal compressing the spinal cord or nerve roots.

Why RejuvaDisc

Why Choose RejuvaDisc?

FDA-cleared

The gold-standard decompression system with the most extensive clinical research of any device in its class. Peer-reviewed studies confirm its effectiveness for disc pathology.

Free MRI review

We review your MRI or X-ray before recommending treatment. If decompression isn't right for your case, we'll tell you honestly and point you in the right direction.

No surgery, no injections

Spinal decompression is entirely non-invasive. No anaesthetic, no recovery time, no surgical risk. Patients leave each session and go about their day normally.

Integrated physiotherapy

Every decompression patient receives a tailored physiotherapy and rehabilitation programme alongside their decompression sessions to maximise and protect results.

Honest candidacy assessment

Not every disc problem is suitable for decompression. We carry out a thorough assessment first and only treat patients we're confident we can help.

CORU-registered team

Our physiotherapists are registered with CORU and the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, with specialist training in spinal decompression and disc pathology.

Patient Stories

Real Results from Real Patients

"I had a herniated disc at L5/S1 and was told surgery was my only option. After 25 sessions at RejuvaDisc I was completely pain-free. My follow-up MRI showed significant improvement in the disc. I can't recommend them highly enough."

Aoife Downey

Dublin

"I'd been living with lower back pain and leg numbness for two years. Within three weeks of starting treatment the numbness was gone. The team explained everything clearly and the results have been life-changing."

Triona

Tallaght

"My disc was pressing on the nerve and I couldn't stand for more than five minutes. RejuvaDisc got me back to full activity without surgery. The whole team are exceptional."
